Why you should raise your children in a vegan way?

The next generation is growing up with the fact that their environment is changing incredibly fast. Climate change is indeed one of the biggest challenges of their generation. A poll from Gallup in 2018 has highlighted that 70% of the millenials (adults aged from 18 to 35 years old) are worried about global warming compared to 56% of those aged 55 or older. Therefore, the next generation to be born will be more aware than the older. But what can we do at our scale ?

Change our diet and educate our children.

The biggest organizations of the world advise people to reduce their meat consumption: The UN, the IPCC, and even the RLI (the Dutch Council for the Environment and Infrastructure) in order to curb climate change. Indeed, meat production is one of the most greenhouse emitters for several factors : amount of water used, deforestation, grazing land and so on.

To do so, we have to change our diet but also educate our children to get the habits from the beginning. We know that it will be easier to create habits if it is taught young.

What are the benefits for the planet of growing as a vegan ?

According to researchers at the University of Oxford, found that “cutting meat and dairy products from your diet could reduce an individual’s carbon footprint from food by up to 73 per cent”. In the same time, if everyone followed this diet, global farmland would be reduced by 75 per cent, as equivalent as the size of the US, China, Australia and EU combined. Moreover, as it says above, grazing land for meat production will be free up again.
